Recent Events

GMRI had a good presence at the MSTA 2010 conference this year, with 4 of us attending. We really enjoyed chatting with all of you teachers, a bit of networking, the yummy food…oh, and we presented the VitalVenture curriculum too!

In October, we put our hard work to the test with 4 groups of 20 students at the Northern Maine Children’s Water Festival. Check out the comments section of the Be a Watershed activity for our Lessons Learned…many Hershey’s kisses later!

Summer of 2010 was filled with fun teacher institutes, infused with watershed education experiences that included lobstering aboard the Lucky Catch, biodiversity investigations with Vital Signs, and some take-away learning experiences for next time.

Wiscasset Middle School’s 8th grade students started out their school year with an integrated, year-long study of the Sheepscot River. Led by teacher Sue Kistenmacher – a VitalVenture developer and Vital Signs participant – students have been sharing their learning experience with the community through the Wiscasset Newspaper. Check out our Case Studies page to learn more about this project.
